Bucci Studios International

Trevi Fountain

Bucci’s more noteworthy designs are his working replicas of Italy’s Trevi Fountain. His first fountain was developed for the Italian Tourism Office in 1978 for a major travel convention in Chicago. It was an impressive 20 feet wide, 8.5 feet in diameter and 12 feet tall. In addition to multiple displays in the Chicago vicinity, including a terminal at O’Hare International Airport for the inaugural Chicago-Rome flight by American Airlines, the fountain has toured Philadelphia, Denver, New York City, Buffalo, Wilmington (DE) and Mercer County (NJ).

Working from simply a postcard of the fountain, Bucci sculpted the figures and made rubber molds, which were used to fabricate the statues in fiberglass one by one. The entire process took eight months. Bucci has also created a fifty-foot replica. This fountain is only 15 feet smaller than the original Trevi Fountain in Rome. Either of Bucci’s replica fountains can be used for special events such as weddings, wedding proposals, banquets, festivals, etc.

La Fontana di Trevi history dates back to 19 B.C. and is a wonderful example of Baroque art. It was the terminal point of the Aqua Virgo aqueduct commissioned by Augustus, which was used to provide pure water for the thermal baths. It is still one of the chief sources of pure water today and one of the two oldest and best loved fountains in Rome.

Even cinema has commemorated this famous work of art. In Fellini’s film "La Dolce Vita"; Anita Ekberg jumps into the Trevi Fountain with her clothes on and invites Marcello Mastroianni to join her. Tradition has it that throwing a coin with your left hand over your right shoulder will ensure a return trip to Rome.
